Hello Amigurumi Lovers,

After a long hiatus, I’m going to share an amazing free pattern for you today. The pattern is in US crochet terms. The final size of the toy is about 6,7 inches (17 cm) will be.

Frog Crochet Pattern Instructions

Necessary skills

  • Basic crochet skills
  • Single crochet increase and invisible decrease
  • Crochet in Spiral Rounds
  • Change the color of the yarn
  • Magic ring/circle
  • Basic sewing and embroidery skills

Materials and Tools

  • Yarn Colors: Green, Yellow/Orange (or different color which you like more), Black
  • Polyester stuffing
  • 8-10 mm Safety eyes or buttons
  • 2 mm Crochet Hook (use a smaller hook if you see gaps in your stitches)
  • Yarn Needle (for sewing amigurumi parts)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Markers
  • Dressmaking pins

Abbreviations

  • st = stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • inc = increase (2 single crochets in one stitch)
  • dec = invisible decrease (2 stitches together working in front loops only)
  • (…) = repeat between () number of times indicated
  • […] = total number of stitches in the round or row
  • Continuous round = crochet all followed, without closing the rounds.

Work in continuous rounds. Add a marker at the end of round 2 and move that marker every time you finish a round. Each round has a sequence. Color Green is color 1. Color Yellow/Orange is color 2.

Crochet Frog Pattern

Head and Body

The head and body are worked as one piece. Start at the top of the head and work down to the bottom of the body.

Use green yarn (color 1).

  2. (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  3. (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
  4. (sc 2, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
  5. (sc 3, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
  6. (sc 4, inc) repeat 6 times [36]
  7. (sc 5, inc) repeat 6 times [42]
  8. (sc 6, inc) repeat 6 times [48]
  9. (sc 7, inc) repeat 6 times [54]

    Top of the head should look like in Picture 1.

10 – 14. sc 54 [54] = sc 54 repeated 5 rounds

  1. (sc 7, dec) repeat 6 times [48]
  2. (sc 6, dec) repeat 6 times [42]
  3. (sc 5, dec) repeat 6 times [36]
  4. (sc 4, dec) repeat 6 times [30]
  5. (sc 3, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
  6. (sc 2, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
  7. sc 18 [18]

Do not cut the yarn. Stuff and shape the head. Make sure to firmly fill the top of the head. Mark the beginning of the body. Continue with green color. Stuff and shape the body as you go.

Change to yellow/orange yarn (color 2). Picture 2.

  7. – 31. sc 42 [42] = sc 42 repeated 2 rounds

    Stuff and shape the body. Be sure to fill any stuffing gaps in the neck.

    32.(sc 5, dec) repeat 6 times [36]

    34.(sc 3, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
    35.(sc 2, dec) repeat 6 times [18]

    Stuff over the next 2 rounds as needed.

    36.(sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
    37.dec repeat 6 times [6]

Fasten off and leave a tail for closing up the gap. Weave in and out the remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Knot off and hide the yarn tail into the body. Picture 4.

Eyes (Make 2)

Use green yarn (color 1). If you plan to use safety eyes, they are placed between the 4th and 5th rounds.

  1. sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  2. (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  3. (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
  4. -5. sc 18 [18] = sc 18 repeated 2 rounds
    6. (sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times [12]

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff and shape the eyes. Picture 6 and Picture 7.

Pin the eyes on top of the head between the 5th and 9th rounds and play around with placement before sewing in place. Picture 8 and Picture 9.

Sew the eyes. To embroider a nose, make two black points with 3 visible stitches between them on the 8th round. Picture 10.

Embroider a mouth on the 11th, 12th and 13th rounds (between the 10th and 14th rounds). Picture 11.

Arms (Make 2)

Use green yarn (color 1).

  1. sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  2. (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  3. (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
  4. – 5. sc 18 [18] = sc 18 repeated 2 rounds
    6. (sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
    7. (sc 2, dec) repeat 3 times [9]
    Stuff and shape hands. Picture 12.

Leave the next part of the arms without stuffing.
8 – 17. sc 9 [9] = sc 9 repeated 10 rounds
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Picture 13.

Leg (Make 3)

Use green yarn (color 1).

  1. sc 6 in magic ring [6]
  2. (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
  3. (sc 1, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
  4. – 6. sc 18 [18] = sc 18 repeated 3 round
    7.(sc 1, dec) repeat 6 times [12]

    Stuff and shape feet. Leave the next part of the legs without stuffing.
    8 – 19. sc 12 [12] = sc 12 repeated 12 rounds

    Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Picture 14

Pin the arms on the sides of the body. Picture 15 and Picture 16.

Sew the arms flat (Picture 17) between the 22nd and 23rd rounds. They are on the 1st and 2nd rounds of the body. Picture 18.

Pin the legs at the bottom of the body. Picture 19.

Sew the legs flat between the 32nd and 37th rounds of the body. Picture 20 and Picture 21.

The front and the back views of the frog should look like in Picture 22 and Picture 23.
