Today I am sharing a very cute amigurumi hedgehog pattern for you for free. This pattern uses standard US terms for crochet and is pretty easy to make.

Hedgehog Amigurumi Pattern Instructions

Materials

  • Aran weight yarn in four colors:
    Light brown
    Dark brown
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Yarn needle
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • 6 mm black safety eyes and backs

Abrreviations

  • MC: Magic Circle
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • Incr: Increase (2 single crochets in one stitch)
  • Decr: Decrease (Single crochet two stitches together)
  • (x): Number of stitches at the end of each round

Notes

  • The stated yarn size does not have to be the yarn size used, but understand that when changing the yarn size the hook size should be altered as well.
  • This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, so DO NOT join the stitches together at the end of each round.

Hedgehog Amigurumi

HEAD & BODY
Begin with light brown yarn.

Round 1: mc with 6 sc (6)
Round 2: 1 sc in first two stitches, incr in third stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (8)
Round 3: 1 sc in each stitch (8)
Round 4: 1 sc in first stitch, incr in second stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (12)
Round 5: 1 sc in each stitch (12)
Round 6: 1 sc in first three stitches, incr in fourth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (15)
Round 7: 1 sc in first four stitches, incr in fifth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (18)
Round 8: 1 sc in first two stitches, incr in third stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (24)
Round 9: Switch to dark brown yarn at the beginning of this round. 1 sc in first three stitches, incr in fourth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (30)

Insert safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8 spaced 6 stitches apart.

Round 10: 1 sc in first four stitches, incr in fifth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (36)
Round 11: 1 sc in first five stitches, incr in sixth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (42)
Rounds 12-23: 1 sc in each stitch (42). Begin stuffing Henrietta at this point.
Round 24: 1 sc in first five stitches, decr in sixth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (36)
Round 25: 1 sc in first four stitches, decr in fifth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (30)
Round 26: 1 sc in first three stitches, decr in fourth stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (24)
Round 27: 1 sc in first two stitches, decr in third stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (18)
Round 28: 1 sc in first stitch, decr in second stitch, repeat pattern to end of round (12). Finish stuffing Henrietta after this round.
Round 29: decr in each stitch (6)

Fasten off with a long tail and sew the remaining six stitches shut.

Head & Body

EARS (Make 2)
Use light brown yarn for this piece.

Round 1: mc with 6 sc (6)
Round 2: incr in each stitch (12)
Fasten off with a 12 inch tail for sewing. Shape the ears by sewing together the first and last stitches in the second round of the ear.

LEGS (Make 2)
Use light brown yarn for this piece.

Round 1: mc with 6 sc (6)
Rounds 2-4: 1 sc in each stitch (6)
Fasten off with a 12 inch tail for sewing.

Legs

ASSEMBLY

Ears: Pin the ears to round 10 spaced about 1 ½ inches apart. Using the long tails from the ears and your yarn needle, sew the ears on.

Legs: Pin the front two legs onto rounds 12 and 13 spaced about 1 inch apart. Pin the back two legs onto rounds 21 and 22 also spaced about 1 inch apart. Use the leg tails and your yarn needle to sew the legs on.

Finishing: Cut a 15 inch long piece of dark brown yarn. Use your yarn needle to embroider a nose onto the tip of Henrietta’s snout.

And your Hedgehog is done!
